Samantha, our lesbian hero

I just finished creating Sam here. She'll be the character you play as in the game. I was trying to fit together different cool lesbian fashion-wear, give her a stylin short hair dew, and of course, a rainbow bracelet!
ps, I like the shoes :)

Research and Development

There's been progress! As you notice I've written a few posts today. I've been researching glbt themes in current games and came across these sites and groups. It's nice to see a gay-friendly perspective on video games :D

Today I refactored some code and added more realistic jumping - yay for acceleration! Then I realized I've got to start putting in some artwork. Since I'm a lesbian and since you don't see many female heroes in video games, I'm choosing to make the main character a gay-girl! I went and collected lots of lesbian-fashion-wear images off the internet to reference. And she's gotta have a cool stylin hair cut.

LGBT Game Project

Hi I'm Cami, a senior in Computer Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder. For my art media certificate's thesis project I'm making a game for the lesbian gay bisexual trans (LGBT) community. The game is geared towards teenagers and young adults and will feature a game play style similar to Super Mario Bros (2-D, side scrolling, jump on stuff, moves to the right). You will play as a young gay or lesbian hero.

Soon I'll post an outline of all our current ideas. What I'm really having trouble with is figuring out how to translate things into fun gameplay. I want to share with the community cool pride building resources that we have available like clubs, groups, lgbt bookstores, websites. The idea that you can get help and find friendship and support with these places. Concepts like what to do when you get picked on and practice fighting back in effective ways. But really, I wanna make this fun to play! What kind of lgbt focused game would you play? Let me know if you've got any recommendations =D

And here's my site, so look at my other games to what my style looks like: supercami.com

Blog is up

I just created this blog to post updates on the game making process. Anyone who wants to give input on ideas is welcome to leave comments!
